Apples popular voice recognition service is receiving praise today after helping to save a teens life by calling emergency services.
18 year old Sam Ray tells media that while fixing his truck, the jack collapsed and he became pinned under almost 5000lbs of metal, in a place where he couldn’t be easily seen or heard.
While trying to break himself free, he heard Siri activate. “I said call 911, and that was all I said,” recalled Ray.
The 911 dispatcher, Christina Lee says she initially thought it was a pocket dial, but then she heard the screams for helped and sent the volunteer firefighters who rescued him.
When firefighters raised the truck to pull Sam Ray out, he had been under the truck 40 long minutes. He suffered broken ribs, a bruised kidney, cuts, a concussion, and had burns on one arm, due to the accident. Experts note he’s lucky it wasn’t a lot worse.
Ray says he’s thankful to be alive, and goes on to say, ”I guess I’m stuck with an iPhone for the rest of my life, I owe them that”.
